tectonic boundaries
Tectonic boundaries are the edges where Earth's massive crustal sections, called tectonic plates, meet. These plates constantly move, and their interactions at boundaries cause geological activity. There are three main types: divergent boundaries, where plates move apart and new crust forms; convergent boundaries, where plates collide, causing mountain building or subduction; and transform boundaries, where plates slide past each other, leading to earthquakes. These boundaries shape the landscape, create volcanoes, and trigger seismic events, playing a vital role in Earth's dynamic surface processes.
