Teays River

The Teays River was an ancient, now-extinct river system that existed approximately 65 to 75 million years ago, before the formation of the modern Ohio River. It flowed across parts of what are now Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky, carving out valleys and landscapes that influenced regional geography. The river was eventually diverted and filled in by glacial activity during the Ice Age, which reshaped the area and led to the development of today's river systems. Studying the Teays River helps geologists understand ancient climates, landscape changes, and the Earth's geological history.
