Taxaceae

Taxaceae, commonly known as the yew family, is a group of coniferous trees and shrubs. They are characterized by needle-like or scale-like leaves and often produce red or brown seeds encased in a fleshy covering called an aril. Many species are valued for their ornamental use, such as the English yew. Some members have notable alkaloids used in medical treatments, notably cancer drugs derived from yew needles. Taxaceae species typically thrive in temperate regions, and while they are generally slow-growing, they play important ecological roles and have cultural significance in landscaping and horticulture.
