Tarim Basin
The Tarim Basin is a large desert area located in western China, spanning parts of Xinjiang. It’s one of the largest inland basins in the world, surrounded by mountains and dominated by the vast Taklamakan Desert. Historically, it was an important crossroads for Silk Road trade routes. Despite its arid climate, the basin has fertile areas supported by ancient irrigation, making it a key region for agriculture and cities like Kashgar. The basin’s unique landscape also includes river deltas and oases, contributing to its ecological diversity and historical significance.
