Tarell Alvin McCraney is an American playwright and filmmaker known for his powerful storytelling that explores themes of identity, family, and community, especially within Black cultures. His works often draw from his own experiences growing up in Louisiana and are celebrated for their emotional depth and poetic language. McCraney gained widespread recognition with his play "Brother to Brother" and is perhaps best known as the creator of the "Choir Boy" and "When We Were Colored." He also co-wrote the screenplay for the Oscar-winning film "Moonlight," which highlights Black life and challenge.
