Tanis (Egypt)

Tanis was an ancient Egyptian city located in the northeastern Nile Delta, serving as a major religious and political center during the Third and 21st Dynasties (around 1070–945 BCE). It was known for its impressive temples, particularly the Great Temple of Amun, and for hosting a vibrant marketplace. Tanis gained prominence after the decline of Thebes and was briefly Egypt’s capital. Archaeological excavations have revealed impressive tombs, palace remains, and artifacts, offering valuable insights into Egypt’s history, religion, and culture during this period. Today, the site is an important archaeological location providing clues about ancient Egyptian civilization.
