Tangut Script
The Tangut script was a unique writing system used by the Tangut people of Northwest China from the 11th to 13th centuries. It consists of over 6,000 complex characters, similar to Chinese characters, representing words and sounds. Designed for their own language, it reflects a sophisticated logographic system with detailed characters. The script was used mainly for official documents, literature, and religious texts until the Mongol invasion. Today, it is studied by linguists and historians to understand Tangut culture and language, but it is no longer in active use.
