Tango Project
The Tango Project was an initiative by Google, launched in 2014, focused on developing advanced computer vision and spatial awareness technologies for mobile devices. It aimed to enable smartphones and tablets to understand their surroundings in three dimensions, much like how humans perceive space. By using a combination of cameras, sensors, and specialized software, Tango allowed devices to create a detailed map of their environment, enabling applications in augmented reality, gaming, and navigation. Despite its innovative potential, the project was eventually phased out in favor of other technologies, like ARCore, which continued to advance augmented reality experiences.
