Tanapox virus
Tanapox virus is a rare virus transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes or contact with infected primates in regions of Africa. It causes a mild illness characterized by fever, headache, muscle aches, and skin lesions or ulcers that appear mainly on the face and limbs. The symptoms usually resolve on their own within a few weeks, and serious complications are uncommon. Tanapox is considered a zoonotic disease, meaning it primarily affects animals but can occasionally infect humans through specific exposures. It is not easily spread from person to person.
