Tamil Tigers (LTTE)

The Tamil Tigers, officially known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), were a militant organization that sought an independent Tamil state in Sri Lanka. Founded in 1976, they used guerrilla tactics, political violence, and even suicide attacks to pursue their goal, primarily representing the Tamil ethnic minority. The Sri Lankan government considered them a terrorist group. After decades of conflict, the LTTE was defeated in 2009. Their activities significantly impacted Sri Lanka’s history, highlighting complex issues of ethnic identity, nationalism, and civil conflict.
