Tamil Alvars
The Tamil Alvars were devotional poets in South India between the 6th and 10th centuries who passionately expressed their love for the Hindu god Vishnu through hymns. Their poetry, composed in Tamil, emphasizes personal devotion and the surrender of the ego to attain spiritual union with the divine. The Alvars played a crucial role in shaping bhakti (devotional) tradition, making spiritual teachings accessible to common people, and influencing temple worship practices. Their collective work, known as the "Divya Prabandham," remains an important religious and cultural treasure in Tamil Nadu.
