Taiwanese White Terror

The Taiwanese White Terror was a period of political repression from 1947 to the late 1980s, when the government under the Kuomintang (KMT) government suppressed opposing political views and dissent. Following Taiwan's retreat from mainland China, the authorities aimed to consolidate power, often through arrests, imprisonments, and executions of suspected communists, activists, or critics. This era was marked by fear, censorship, and loss of civil liberties, as thousands were persecuted based on accusations of anti-government activities. The White Terror ended as Taiwan gradually transitioned to a more democratic society, recognizing human rights and political freedoms.
