
Taira no Tomomori
Taira no Tomomori was a prominent Japanese military commander during the late 12th century, known for his role in the Genpei War (1180–1185). As a prince and loyal samurai of the Taira clan, he fought fiercely against the Minamoto clan. He is especially remembered for his bravery in the Battle of Dan-no-ura, where he continued fighting even as the Taira clan faced defeat, ultimately drowning in the naval battle. His story symbolizes loyalty, valor, and tragedy in Japanese history and literature.
