Taenia saginata
Taenia saginata, commonly known as the beef tapeworm, is a parasitic flatworm that infects humans who consume undercooked or contaminated beef containing the larval stage. Once inside the intestines, the adult tapeworm can grow several meters long, attaching to the intestinal wall and absorbing nutrients. Most infections are asymptomatic, but some people may experience symptoms like mild abdominal discomfort, nausea, or weight loss. Proper cooking of beef and good hygiene practices are essential to prevent infection. The tapeworm can produce segments that are passed in stool, which can lead to further spread if hygiene is not maintained.
