Tactical Air Command

Tactical Air Command (TAC) was a division of the U.S. Air Force responsible for providing quick, flexible air support for military operations. It specialized in deploying fighter aircraft, bombers, and other fast-moving planes that could directly support ground forces, defend against enemy attacks, and conduct reconnaissance. Essentially, TAC ensured that the Air Force’s aircraft could respond rapidly to evolving battlefield needs, offering tactical, real-time air power during combat. In 1992, TAC was merged into the broader Air Combat Command to streamline operations, but its legacy was in delivering adaptable, frontline air support during military engagements.
