Tacky’s Rebellion
Tacky’s Rebellion was a 1760 uprising in Jamaica led by a slave named Tacky. Enslaved Africans, seeking freedom and better treatment, rebelled against harsh conditions imposed by slaveholders. The revolt involved attacking plantations, killing several people, and attempting to escape. British authorities quickly suppressed the rebellion, and Tacky was executed. This unrest highlighted the brutal realities of slavery and the desire for freedom among enslaved Africans in the Caribbean.
