TAC (Tactical Air Command)
Tactical Air Command (TAC) was a major division of the U.S. Air Force responsible for providing flexible, close support to ground and maritime forces, as well as protecting U.S. airspace. It focused on quick-response military aircraft like fighters, bombers, and reconnaissance planes to engage in combat, defend allies, and carry out strategic missions. TAC ensured air power was ready for immediate deployment during conflicts, emphasizing agility and tactical effectiveness. It operated from 1946 until its merger into Air Combat Command in 1992, shaping modern aerial combat and air support roles.
