Taíno language

Taíno was the language spoken by the Taíno people of the Caribbean, including present-day Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. It is a member of the Arawakan language family, which includes many indigenous languages of South and Central America. Although Taíno is now extinct as a living language, some words, place names, and cultural terms have survived in the Caribbean. Efforts are ongoing to revive and study the language through historical records and oral traditions. Understanding Taíno provides insight into the indigenous cultures and history of the Caribbean region prior to European contact.
