T Tauri star

A T Tauri star is a young, developing star that is just emerging from the cloud of gas and dust where stars form. It is usually less than a few million years old and still in the process of contracting and heating up. These stars are characterized by irregular brightness, strong stellar winds, and often have surrounding disks of material that may eventually form planets. T Tauri stars are important for understanding stellar evolution because they represent a transitional phase between a protostar and a fully mature star like our Sun.
