Tōhoku Tsunami

The Tōhoku Tsunami occurred on March 11, 2011, triggered by a massive undersea earthquake off Japan’s northeastern coast. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 9.0, caused a significant displacement of the seafloor, generating powerful tsunami waves that reached heights up to 40 meters (131 feet). These waves traveled across the Pacific Ocean, causing widespread destruction along Japan’s coast, damaging infrastructure, homes, and claims thousands of lives. The disaster also led to the Fukushima nuclear meltdown, highlighting the devastating impact of natural events and emphasizing the importance of preparedness and resilient infrastructure.
