T cell maturation

T cell maturation is the process by which T cells, a type of immune cell, develop in the thymus gland. Starting as immature cells, they undergo several stages where they learn to recognize specific signals and self-molecules. During this process, they either become functional T cells that can identify and attack infected or abnormal cells or are eliminated if they might attack the body's own tissues. Mature T cells then leave the thymus to patrol the body, ready to help defend against infections and other threats. This process ensures that the immune system functions effectively and safely.
