Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial
The Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) was a major medical study that tested whether lowering systolic blood pressure (the top number in a blood pressure reading) more aggressively could reduce the risk of serious health problems like heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. The study found that targeting a lower blood pressure goal (less than 120 mm Hg) significantly decreased these risks compared to standard targets (less than 140 mm Hg). These findings suggest that careful management of systolic blood pressure can improve overall health and prevent complications, especially in adults at higher risk for cardiovascular disease.
