Systemic Abuse
Systemic abuse refers to the consistent mistreatment, neglect, or exploitation of individuals that occurs within the structures of institutions, organizations, or societal systems. It happens when policies, practices, or cultural norms unintentionally or intentionally perpetuate harm, often affecting vulnerable or marginalized groups. Unlike isolated incidents, systemic abuse is embedded in the way systems operate, making it difficult to identify and address without comprehensive change. It can manifest in workplaces, healthcare, education, or other institutions, leading to widespread harm that reinforces inequality and undermines trust.
