Syro-Aramaic

Syro-Aramaic is a form of Aramaic language spoken in the historical regions of Syria and surrounding areas from around the 1st millennium BCE through the early centuries CE. It served as a common lingua franca for commerce, administration, and religion among diverse peoples, including Jews and early Christians. The language features its own script and dialects, influencing the development of other languages and texts, such as parts of the Hebrew Bible and early Christian writings. Today, remnants of Syro-Aramaic are preserved in religious liturgies, historical texts, and some modern dialects spoken by small communities in the Middle East.
