Synucleinopathies

Synucleinopathies are a group of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by abnormal buildup of a protein called alpha-synuclein in brain cells. This protein accumulation disrupts normal cell function, leading to progressive neurological symptoms. Common examples include Parkinson's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multiple system atrophy. These conditions often involve movement difficulties, cognitive changes, and autonomic dysfunction. The exact cause of alpha-synuclein buildup isn't fully understood, but it is a hallmark feature linking these disorders. Research aims to understand how this protein contributes to disease progression to develop better treatments.
