Synod of Dordrecht
The Synod of Dordrecht was a major church council held in 1618-1619 in the Dutch city of Dordrecht. It brought together Reformed theologians to settle important doctrinal disputes, particularly about salvation and church practices. The synod affirmed key Calvinist beliefs, such as predestination and the authority of Scripture, and rejected certain opposing views. Its decisions helped shape Reformed theology in the Netherlands and beyond, promoting unity among Protestant churches. The synod is also notable for commissioning the publication of the authoritative Dutch translation of the Bible, known as the Statenvertaling.
