Symptomatic carotid artery stenosis

Symptomatic carotid artery stenosis occurs when a narrowing in the carotid artery, the main blood vessel supplying blood to the brain, causes symptoms like a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke. This narrowing is usually due to fatty deposits called plaque building up inside the artery. The reduced blood flow or broken-off plaque can lead to temporary or permanent brain injury, manifesting as weakness, speech difficulties, or other neurological issues. Treatment often involves medication, lifestyle changes, or procedures like surgery to reduce the risk of future strokes.
