Sympathomimetic agents
Sympathomimetic agents are substances that mimic the effects of the sympathetic nervous system, which prepares the body for "fight or flight" responses. They activate receptors called adrenergic receptors, leading to effects such as increased heart rate, constriction of blood vessels (raising blood pressure), and dilation of airways. These agents are used medically to treat conditions like asthma, nasal congestion, and certain cardiovascular problems, or sometimes recreationally. They work by stimulating the body's natural fight-or-flight signals, helping to quickly improve breathing, raise blood pressure, or stimulate alertness.
