Symmachus

Symmachus was a Roman scholar and translator from the late 4th to early 5th century, known for producing a Latin version of the Hebrew Bible. His work aimed to provide a more accurate or accessible translation for Latin-speaking Christians. Symmachus’s translation is considered one of the significant early efforts to interpret Jewish scriptures into Latin, alongside others like those of Jerome. His activities contributed to the development of Christian biblical texts and helped bridge cultural and linguistic gaps between Jewish scriptures and Latin-speaking audiences.
