sylvatic dengue
Sylvatic dengue refers to a natural cycle of the dengue virus that occurs in wildlife, primarily involving non-human primates and forest mosquitoes, outside of human populations. In this cycle, the virus is maintained among animals in forested areas and can occasionally jump to humans when they come into contact with these environments or infected mosquitoes. Unlike urban dengue, which spreads easily between people via urban mosquitoes, sylvatic dengue is confined mostly to wildlife, making it less common but important for understanding the virus's origins and potential risks of new outbreaks.
