Syed Ahmad Khan (founder of MAO College)
Syed Ahmad Khan was a prominent Indian scholar, politician, and reformer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He founded the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875, which later became Aligarh Muslim University, to promote modern education among Indian Muslims. Recognizing the need for socio-cultural and educational upliftment, he aimed to bridge traditional Islamic learning with Western sciences. His work emphasized rationalism, modernity, and coexistence, playing a key role in shaping modern Muslim identity in India. Khan's efforts significantly contributed to educational reform and Muslim socio-political awareness during British rule.
