Sybil’s Cistern

Sybil’s Cistern is a large, ancient underground storage tank located in Istanbul, Turkey, built during the Byzantine Empire. It served as a vital water reservoir, collecting and storing rainwater and water supplied from aqueducts to supply the city’s residents and buildings. Measuring about 138 by 65 meters with a capacity of roughly 80,000 cubic meters, its impressive architecture includes rows of stone columns creating a spacious, vaulted interior.
