Swiss Council of States
The Swiss Council of States is one of Switzerland's two chambers in the national parliament, representing the country’s 26 cantons (regions). It functions as a legislative body that reviews, amends, and approves laws alongside the National Council. Each canton, regardless of size, sends two representatives, ensuring regional interests are balanced at the federal level. The Council of States plays a vital role in shaping Swiss legislation, fostering regional participation, and maintaining the federal system that distinguishes Switzerland’s political structure. It operates through debates, committees, and votes, contributing to the democratic governance of the country.
