Swar

In Indian classical music, "Swar" refers to the fundamental musical notes or pitches that form the basis of melodies. Think of it as the specific sounds or tones that composers and performers use to create scales and compositions. There are seven primary swars—Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni—which correspond roughly to the Western notes Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, and Ti. Swars are essential building blocks that allow musicians to express emotions and create complex musical patterns within various ragas and compositions.
