SvO2 (Mixed venous oxygen saturation)
Mixed venous oxygen saturation (SvO2) measures the balance between oxygen delivery to tissues and their oxygen consumption. It reflects the amount of oxygen remaining in the blood after tissues have used what they need. Typically measured from blood in the heart’s pulmonary artery, SvO2 indicates how well the body is meeting its oxygen needs: higher levels suggest tissues are receiving sufficient oxygen; lower levels may indicate inadequate oxygen delivery or increased oxygen use, which can point to issues like low blood flow, anemia, or critical illness. It’s a useful indicator for assessing overall circulatory and respiratory health.
