Sutton-Boveri Hypothesis

The Sutton-Boveri Hypothesis suggests that cancer originates from a cell that loses one or more chromosomes, leading to genetic imbalances. This imbalance causes the affected cell to grow uncontrollably and develop into a tumor. Essentially, it proposes that chromosomal abnormalities—such as missing or extra chromosomes—disrupt normal cell regulation, driving cancer development. This theory helped scientists understand the genetic basis of cancer and the importance of chromosomal health for normal cell function.
