Suspicious Activity Report (SAR)

A Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) is a document that financial institutions, like banks, file with government authorities when they detect unusual or potentially illegal activity. This could include patterns of transactions that seem out of the ordinary or signs of money laundering, fraud, or other financial crimes. The purpose of a SAR is to help law enforcement track and investigate suspicious behaviors, ultimately contributing to the prevention and detection of financial crimes. SARs are confidential and are not shared with the individuals involved to protect ongoing investigations.
