Survivors (Hibakusha)
Hibakusha refers to the survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. This Japanese word means "explosion-affected people." Those identified as hibakusha include individuals who were in the cities at the time of the bombings or who suffered delayed effects due to radiation exposure. Many hibakusha faced long-term health issues, including cancers and psychological trauma. Their experiences have been vital in raising awareness about the impacts of nuclear warfare and advocating for peace and nuclear disarmament. The hibakusha continue to share their stories to educate future generations about the consequences of atomic bombings.
