Surgical Treatment of Ovarian Cancer

Surgical treatment for ovarian cancer typically involves removing the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and often the uterus. This procedure is called a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (TAH-BSO). In some cases, additional tissues, such as nearby lymph nodes or omentum (a layer of fat in the abdomen), may also be removed to ensure all cancer cells are eliminated. Surgery aims to remove as much of the tumor as possible, which can help improve the effectiveness of other treatments like chemotherapy. Recovery and follow-up care are important for managing health after the surgery.
