Surgical site infections (SSI)

Surgical site infections (SSIs) are infections that occur at or near a surgical incision within 30 days of surgery or within a year if an implant is involved. They happen when bacteria or other germs enter the body through the surgical wound, causing redness, swelling, pain, or pus. SSIs can range from mild to severe and may delay healing or require additional treatment. Proper sterilization, careful wound care, and hygiene practices help reduce the risk of infection. Monitoring for signs of infection after surgery is essential for prompt treatment and recovery.
