Surgery (Cystectomy)

A cystectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove the bladder, typically due to bladder cancer or other severe bladder conditions. The surgeon carefully excises the bladder tissue, often including nearby lymph nodes. Since the bladder stores urine, a new way to collect urine is needed after removal. This can involve creating a new urinary pathway using a segment of intestine (urinary diversion) or, in some cases, other reconstructive techniques. Although complex, cystectomy aims to eliminate disease and restore normal urinary function, with careful planning and surgical expertise ensuring the best possible outcome.
