Surgery (Bladder augmentation)

Bladder augmentation is a surgical procedure that helps improve bladder capacity and function. It’s usually done for patients with a small, stiff, or poorly functioning bladder that causes frequent urinary problems. During the surgery, a surgeon uses a piece of the patient’s intestine to enlarge the bladder, creating more room for urine. This can reduce symptoms like frequent trips to the bathroom or incontinence. The procedure aims to make bladder emptying easier, decrease urinary infections, and protect kidney function. Although effective, it involves risks like infection or bowel issues, and patients often require ongoing follow-up care.
