Surface EMG

Surface electromyography (sEMG) is a non-invasive technique that measures electrical signals generated by muscles when they contract. Tiny sensors placed on the skin over a muscle detect these electrical activity patterns, providing information about muscle function, strength, and coordination. It is commonly used in medical diagnosis, rehabilitation, sports science, and research to assess muscle health, identify abnormalities, and monitor training progress. Essentially, sEMG acts like a microphone picking up the electrical "chatter" of muscles as they work, allowing clinicians and researchers to analyze muscle behavior without invasive procedures.
