surface active agents

Surface active agents, commonly known as surfactants, are compounds that reduce the surface tension between two substances, such as oil and water. They have a unique molecular structure with a hydrophilic (water-loving) head and a hydrophobic (water-fearing) tail. This allows them to attract and surround oily or greasy dirt particles, making them easier to wash away. Surfactants are found in cleaning products like soaps, detergents, and shampoos, helping to improve cleaning efficiency by breaking down oils and making water foam more effectively.
