Supersonic

Supersonic refers to speeds that exceed the speed of sound, approximately 343 meters per second (1,125 feet per second) in air at sea level. When an object moves faster than sound, it creates shock waves that produce a characteristic sonic boom. Supersonic travel is common in military jets and was used in the Concorde commercial airplane. Traveling supersonically involves unique aerodynamic phenomena, such as increased air resistance and changes in pressure, which require special design considerations. Essentially, supersonic speed means surpassing the natural auditory barrier, resulting in distinct physical effects and technical challenges.
