superiority theory

Superiority theory explains why people laugh at certain jokes or humorous situations: it’s because they feel a sense of advantage or superiority over others. When we see someone else making a mistake or being vulnerable, we might find it funny because it makes us feel smarter, more capable, or morally better. This feeling of being "above" the person or situation triggers amusement. Essentially, humor from this perspective arises from our relief or satisfaction in recognizing our own superiority in some way, creating a sense of social or personal validation.
