Superdelegate System

A superdelegate is a delegate in U.S. presidential primaries who is not bound by voter preferences and can choose any candidate at the party’s national convention. Usually experienced party leaders or officials serve as superdelegates, providing them a degree of independence to influence the nomination process. Their role is to help guide the party towards a consensus candidate, especially if the primary votes are close or divided. While they can sway the outcome, their votes are typically aligned with party interests, and their influence has been a topic of debate regarding fairness and democratic representation in the nomination process.
