Supercritical Water Oxidation

Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO) is a process that uses water under very high pressure and temperature—above its critical point—where it becomes a supercritical fluid. In this state, water acts like both a liquid and a gas, allowing it to dissolve and break down organic waste efficiently. Oxidants like oxygen are added to rapidly decompose hazardous materials into harmless byproducts such as carbon dioxide and water. SCWO is an effective, environmentally friendly method for treating complex wastes, including sewage sludge, industrial chemicals, and hazardous residues, reducing their volume and toxicity.
