
Super Bowl XXIII
Super Bowl XXIII, held in 1989, was the championship game of NFL’s 1988 season, featuring the San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals. Played in Miami, the 49ers led much of the game, but the Bengals mounted a late comeback. With just over three minutes remaining and trailing 21-20, 49ers quarterback Joe Montana led a critical 92-yard drive, culminating in a touchdown pass to John Taylor. The 49ers won 20-16, earning their third Super Bowl title. Montana was named MVP for his exceptional performance, including the game-winning drive that secured their victory.
