Sundial
A sundial is a device that tells time based on the position of the sun. It consists of a flat plate, called a dial, with markings for hours, and a stick called a gnomon that stands upright on the center. When sunlight hits the gnomon, it casts a shadow on the dial. As the sun moves across the sky during the day, the shadow shifts position, pointing to different hour marks. By observing the shadow’s location, you can determine the time of day. Sundials are traditional tools that demonstrate the Earth’s rotation and the apparent motion of the sun.
